La Platriere is a newly renovated property which consists of a large house (Chambre d'Hote) with an adjoining cottage. The property is situated within 3 acres of garden, in a delightful secluded position in the rural countryside of Auvergne. Being in an elevated position, (just under 1000ft above sea level) the house offers wonderful views across the countryside. The property also has a large outdoor swimming pool which guests can enjoy in season.
As well as a lovely holiday retreat, La Platriere is a convenient stop over break during your journey to the south of France, Spain, Switzerland or Italy. While all guests can enjoy the larger gardens, the cottage has its own private parking space and enclosed garden with outdoor furniture and barbeque. Guests at the Chambre d'Hote can enjoy meals out on the sun terrace overlooking the views.

The immediate surrounding area offers numerous lakes for fishing, bathing and canoeing. The Troncais Forest is nearby, renowned for being the largest oak plantation in Europe. During Autumn there are guided tours into the forest to hear the belling of the deer. Also nearby, is an equestrian centre, ideal for those who like horseriding. The area offers good walking and cycling. Uncommon birds such as the Hoopae and birds of prey are common visitors to La Platriere.
Auvergne's greatest attraction is of course the volcanoes and a theme park has recently been opened (Vulcania) which also gives a guided tour around one extinct volcano's crater. The highest peak is Mont Dore (1,885m) in this, the largest group of volcanoes in Europe. The region has several ski resorts. The puys are used as take off platforms for hand-gliding and paragliding. There are 2 protected National Parks in the region.
For those who love culture and history, there are numerous Chateaux, castles, medieval villages and spa towns in the area.The beautiful river Allier runs through the region and for Formula one racing enthusiasts there is the Magny-Cours race circuit. For rail enthusiasts the Cevenal line is one of the most stunning journeys in France. |

The following rates apply to the gite with an occupancy of a maximun of 6 people for one week:
Low season (Nov-March inc) - 399 Euros (£272)
Mid season (April-Mid June and Mid Sept-October inc) 499 Euros (£340)
High season (mid-June - mid-Sept inc) 800 euros (£550)
At various times there are special offers.
With regard to the Chambre d'Hote the rates are as from 35 euros (1 person) to 110 euros (4 persons) per room per night including breakfast.
La Platriere also offers Table d'Hote consisting of evening meals using local produce, these have to be booked at least one day in advance and start from 25 euros for a 4-course meal with wine. |
